Seven Warning Signs Your Air Conditioner Is About to Break Down
Air conditioners do not always fail without warning. In many cases, the system begins showing small changes days or weeks before it stops cooling completely. 1. The Airflow From Your Vents Feels Weak
Weak airflow can make it difficult for your AC system to distribute cooled air throughout the home. You may notice that you have to stand close to a vent to feel air moving or that certain rooms are no longer cooling as well as others.

- A clogged air filter
- A dirty evaporator coil
- A struggling blower motor
- Damaged or disconnected ductwork
- Blocked return or supply vents
- A frozen indoor coil

Frequent starting places additional stress on motors, capacitors, and the compressor. 4. Your Electric Bill Suddenly Increases

Even a small leak can damage drywall, flooring, ceilings, or nearby belongings. Water may also activate a float switch that shuts the system down to prevent an overflow. Do not assume that drying the visible water solves the problem. The source of the leak still needs to be found and corrected.
7. Temperatures Become Uneven or Unpredictable
One room may feel warm while another becomes too cold. The thermostat may show the correct setting, but the home no longer feels consistently comfortable. Uneven temperatures can result from duct leaks, airflow problems, poor system balance, thermostat placement, insulation issues, or declining equipment performance. Pay attention to whether the problem affects one room, one side of the house, or the entire home. This information can help a technician determine where to begin inspecting. A system that once cooled evenly but suddenly struggles in certain areas is more concerning than a room that has always had a comfort issue.
